Chapter Fourteen

The first meeting

“Old Mangus liked luxury. Are you sure no one knows about this place?” Harvey asked Rhian. I wondered about this myself but knowing Idris’s father, he liked keeping things to himself. Avianna had warned me that Ripley lied to us. I wasn’t too happy about staying under the same roof with Frederick. His attitude toward me was disgusting, and I was planning to teach him a lesson if he didn’t backed off. I also wanted to make it clear to Ripley that I wasn’t interested in finding my family. They gave me away when I was born because I appeared to have no magic.

“Come on, Avianna, show me around this enormous house. I need to get some sleep,” I mumbled to my dragon when she returned from her tour.

“It feels strange being back in Draconia. We have to find Ally as soon as possible,” Nicolas said, following me alone. I knew exactly what he meant. My magic felt so much stronger as soon as I crossed over, and I didn’t think it was a coincidence. I felt the energy rushing through my bloodstream, igniting every cell inside me. I had never felt better, and I didn’t know if it had anything to do with the fact I was in Draconia, or the fact Avianna was near me.

“We are going to find her, but, Nicolas, no offense, I have to get some sleep; otherwise I won’t be able to function. I barely closed my eyes in the past two nights,” I told him, while Avianna was flying up and down, screaming that this place was fantastic. It was a huge old house; the floors were creaking and squeaking. There were spiderwebs everywhere, but it felt like it could be our home.

“Yes, I need to rest, too, but I want you to be careful. I don’t trust Ripley, and I noticed that he keeps watching you. It’s creepy. He and Harvey brought us here, but that doesn’t mean they can get us out. It’s Draconia, and the strongest eat the weakest,” he said, taking my hand. His skin was warm, and I wondered if he finally managed to get over the fact I was with Idris. There was a huge hole between us that kept extending. We could hear Rhian singing downstairs. I wasn’t worried about her, and she wasn’t going to take any crap from Harvey or Ripley. I just needed to get away from them for now.

“Don’t worry about me. I’m much stronger now. We will get Ally out, but first we need to locate the eggs. It’s just a matter of time, Nicolas,” I told him, smiling. “Get some rest. We can talk in the morning. You look terrible, man.”

“I presume we can take any one of the rooms. This house is massive,” he said as we reached the first floor. The room had high ceilings, but it seemed that someone had been here. The sheets were just changed, and the room was clean. There was no dust around, not like downstairs.
